Put me on a street with a minimum of two op shops and I am set. Throw in a market and that’s the whole shabang. Honestly, I love to trawl, hunt and dig. The satisfaction? Unbelievable. I’m smiling just thinking of it. The added thrill of finding a piece that is all for you, a one off, is the icing on the cake.
Why thrift? Let’s see, not only are you doing good, preventing waste, encouraging style, saving those dollar dollar bills…I’ll wrap it up there. That’s a pretty impressive list of reasons if you ask me! I’d be signing up.
Don’t know how to go about it? We’ve got an expert on board to give you a hand! Over to you @Op_shop_to_runway :
1. Don’t be put off by the brand or size tag. I’ve often picked up a size 16 or 6 and because of the style and shape it drapes well and maybe just with a belt to nip it in at the waist, it works! You have to be creative with your clothing and use your imagination.
2. If you are interested in fashion and trends, do your research before you go op shopping. Flick through magazines or online for inspiration, because fashion trends cycle, you can pick up vintage flares or calottes and be up to date with international runway looks. All by shopping secondhand
3. And my last tip for op shopping is to have fun, thrift with a smile, be kind to the hardworking volunteers and to remember where the money is going, you are helping change someone’s life.
