Hello and thank you for visiting!
My name is Nicole Bennett and it's so lovely meet you.
I am writing to you from Sydney's northern beaches, a truely beautiful place of the world. Post Covid-19, I do hope you will come visit!
I am a new mum to my gorgeous daughter Chloe Harper Bennett-Clews. Chloe has transformed my life in the most positive way possible. Life is slow, but oh so beautiful! I'm currently on maternity leave from my day job as an Ethical Sourcing Specialist for one of Australias most iconic department stores. I feel very lucky to be able to say that I absolutely love my job!
This year I will be celebrating (at home, damn you Covid-19!) my 10 year wedding anniversary! No small feat I tell you! And whilst I do absolutely adore my husband, he has always had to share my heart with my other true love... Fashion. Truth be told, she stole my heart at a very young age, before I even knew my husband. She and I would spend every weekend together... designing, pattern making, sewing, sourcing inspo in the latest issue of Vogue... and to my fathers dismay, she preoccupied all my time in high school, stealing every spare minute... my grades being a testament to this!
During the last two years of high school, we spent our holidays together at the Whitehouse Institute of Design and post high school, we kept close at Ultimo TAFE whilst studying design.
It really was true love and I have been faithful to her ever since.
After working in the fashion industry for a few years, I decided to make our relationship official and set up a fashion label, 'creatively' calling it Nicole Bennett. It's safe to say that I was completely and utterly naive! I had a very rough business plan, which failed to touch on a budget or cash flow. Oops! I did however touch heavily on my supply chain and vowed to take full responsibility of both the people and the planet. But of course I had no idea what that actually meant!
A few years into running my fashion label, I became acutely aware of the injustices within the industry and needless to say I was horrified. I felt obliged to set up The Helm to help raise awareness of what really was going on behind all the glamour. It was through The Helm that I landed my current day job.
The Helm has evolved over the years alongside my views and whilst I see that both business and government need to play their part in steering the fashion industry in a sustainable direction, I truly believe that it is us... you... me... WE hold the power in our purse!
and it is US who can make the change today... and that is precisely what we will be doing at The Helm.
So please, join us!
